About the Conference
The Respectful Maternity Care Conference is a two-day event dedicated to fostering equity, compassion, and dignity in maternity care. Hosted by the Maternity Consumer Network, the conference will bring together healthcare professionals, advocates, researchers, and policymakers to address critical issues impacting birthing experiences across Australia.

The first day will focus on tackling systemic racism and discrimination in maternity care, highlighting the experiences of diverse cultural and racial groups and exploring actionable strategies for creating culturally safe and inclusive practices.
​
Day two will expand the conversation to include broader aspects of respectful maternity care, such as obstetric violence, birth trauma, coercion, and the importance of autonomy and informed consent in maternity services.

Day 1
Dedicated to Culturally Sensitive Maternity Care, with a focus on addressing racism and discrimination in maternity services.
Attendees will gain deeper insights into the impact of systemic bias and practical strategies to create inclusive, culturally safe care environments. This day will spotlight the voices and experiences of those from First Nations and culturally diverse backgrounds, providing a platform for meaningful dialogue and actionable change.

The second day of the conference expands the conversation to explore broader topics in Respectful Maternity Care, including obstetric violence, birth trauma, coercion, and the importance of autonomy and informed consent.
